Support for Emotional Trauma

I specialize in helping people who are dealing with complex emotional trauma.

When trauma goes unresolved, it is like living in what could be called “a private hell.” The noise of the mind never surrenders.

One of my clients once said, “The only way I know that I am safe is to remind myself to be ready, because I am never going to be safe.” This experience of being on high alert at all times is a surefire indicator of unresolved emotional trauma.

You Are Not the Problem

Many of my clients have had symptoms for so long that they can’t tell the difference between what they think and feel, on one hand, and who they actually are, on the other.

In fact, most conclude that who they are is the problem.

This can never be true.

You are here to live. To think, feel, and experience life.

If difficult experiences from your past are dragging you down even today, then I have good news. I can help you get on the other side of this.

You Are Not the Problem

My approach to treatment of trauma and its associated mental health symptoms comes from countless hours of studying what modalities work as well as which ones fall short.

Many approaches are helpful, but I have found that far too many people come for support after trying popular treatment approaches purported to resolve trauma.

Unfortunately, well-meaning professionals have failed many people struggling with complex trauma.

Fortunately, there are options that can finally give you the answers you seek and the relief you almost stopped hoping you’d find.

The Key Elements of Successful Treatment

I have developed a unique approach based on decades of effort and experience helping people resolve complex trauma.

I have found that successful treatment is based upon the following key elements:

1) Intense Psychoeducation regarding lifespan development, neuropsychology, and physiological understanding of the symptoms you’re experiencing. Depending on the situation, I’ll bring in education from additional domains when it’s helpful. If I know it, you will too over the course of our work together.

2) Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for applying new learning into your everyday experience between our sessions.

3) Progressive Exposure treatment that I’ve evolved based on "Parts Theory.” I’ve distilled the most effective aspects of this approach based on my work with clients in my mental health clinics.

4) Various exercises in management of physical symptoms depending upon the areas of the brain impacted and other factors. This varies depending on the type of trauma you’ve experienced. I’ll guide you through the most important exercises for your specific situation as our work unfolds.

Fred Riley

About Fred Riley

I have established myself as the go-to therapist for those who have tried therapy several times especially for complex and catastrophic trauma but have not experienced meaningful relife.

As a business owner, employer, and trainer of over 20 therapists in the last 18 years, I have learned how to focus treatment strategies that directly fill the gaps found in traditional approaches to treatment.

Many traditional mental health approaches are theoretically helpful, but in actual clinical experience, they fall short.

My unique professional study and experience of critical care patients, treatment of incarcerated sex offenders, 20 years of successful treatment of sexual, physical, and emotional trauma, understanding of emergency psychiatric medication models, and integration of years of study of the functions of the brain provided my clients with the most comprehensive multidisciplinary approach to treatment that they have experienced.

I have gained the reputation as "The Best Damn Therapist," which is an answer I hear frequently when I ask new clients, "How did you decide to come to our office?"

They say: "We heard Fred is the best damn therapist." Honestly, it still feels awkward anytime I hear it. The inspiration for the title of my local tv and radio sponsored podcast "Counseling on Demand: Featuring Fred Riley, the Best Damn Therapist" comes from that reputation.

I don't seek that label. However, I believe it is reflective of my unquenchable drive to improve my training and understanding for the benefit for everyone I see.

If I don't have an answer or an idea for you in a particular session, I promise to have it by the next visit.

I love what I do, as I hope you can tell as you look around this site.

If you are struggling with complex trauma, you’ve tried various approaches, and you have yet to find the solution you’re looking for, I encourage you to reach out. No matter how hopeless your experience may feel, I assure you that you will see meaningful improvement through my methods and approach.
