Individual Therapy

You Can't Talk Yourself Into Wanting Things Again
It's hard to concentrate, and nothing sounds appealing. You've given yourself a pretty good talking-to about it.
Your mind ignored every word, and trying harder hasn't gotten you any further.
When It Goes Further Than That, Say So
On the worst days, you find yourself wondering whether living is worth it at all.
That thought gets my full attention, so bring it to me as plainly as you'd bring anything else.
If you're in immediate danger, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, or call 911.
Why Your Own Good Advice Never Lands
Some of your thinking runs on logic, and that part listens when you make a good point.
The thinking that drains your focus and your interest works from somewhere else. Certain kinds of thinking sit in areas of the brain that tend to hold out against common therapeutic approaches.
Arguments bounce off that thinking because arguments were never its language.
So in individual therapy, I'll work with it in a language it does take in.

Reach the Part of Your Mind That Arguments Miss
Guided imagery is one of the ways I do that.
In plain terms, I describe, you picture, and nobody has to win a debate with your own head.
From there, I've developed treatments aimed at exactly the stubborn thinking a pep talk can't budge.
Give Your Mind Somewhere to Rest
What I'm aiming for is a mind that learns how to rest.
A rested mind has attention to spare, and focus needs that spare room to come back.
Wanting things again needs it too.
Bring Me Your Mood, Your Confidence, or Your Anxiety
Individual therapy with me takes on mood disorders, trouble with self-confidence, and anxiety in its many forms.
A mix of all three with no label attached is its own individual circumstance.
I've noticed that by the time someone gets in touch with me, some part of them has already made up its mind.
Whatever the mix, my advice doesn't change. Take action.
