Your Quiet Days Cost More than the Fights
Hours go by. Sometimes days.
No one is shouting. No one is talking either.
Then an evening arrives and all of it comes out as blame.
By morning you’re back to the quiet, and the quiet feels safer than the alternative.
Neither one of you chose this trade.
Your Needs Stopped Registering Somewhere along the Way
Mistrusted, misunderstood, and not especially wanted: it all adds up to one conclusion.
Your thoughts and your needs don’t land with your partner anymore. Mostly you feel like a burden in your own relationship.
So this is how it’s always gonna be?
There’s a version of this where neither of you has to brace for the evening.

Why Your Timing Decides the Conversation
Your mind and your body work on each other all day.
You’ll learn to read your own state: what’s rising, how strong it is, how long you’ve got.
Then you choose the moment, and the hard conversation gets entered when it has a chance of landing.
The same sentence lands differently depending on when it arrives.
Gain Skills That Outlast Your Last Visit
Most of this is teaching, then practice, between visits as much as during them.
- Read your own mood state before a conversation starts.
- Notice a reaction rising before it writes the whole evening.
- Enter hard topics in a window where they can land.
- Settle problems instead of relitigating them every few weeks.
- Lean on skills that ask less of you over time.
The skills get quieter as they get better.
Three Phases That Taper as You Take Over
-
1
Read the Relationship
One or two visits. I learn how the two of you actually work, then bring in the approach built for these two people.
Two visits in, you know the plan.
-
2
Education and Reps
How current and past experience shows up now, how your brain disrupts and supports the two of you, and skills I built over twenty years. Practice continues between visits.
The heavy learning happens here.
-
3
Make It Yours
Phase two settles into how the two of you already think and decide. Visits space out as you need them less.
The effort drops out of your day.
Why Trust Me As Your Partner in Healing
Built for These Two People
The approach gets matched to how the two of you actually work, which is most of what the first phase is for.
Timing Is Treated as a Skill
Reading your own mood state and choosing your moment is something I teach on purpose, because the same words land differently at different hours.
Skills You Keep after the Last Visit
The work aims at problem-solving and relationship-building you'll still be using long after the visits taper off.

Hi, I’m Fred.
I’ve been doing this work for more than 20 years: trauma of multiple origins including sexual, physical, and emotional; major depression and other mood disorders; and the relationships both of those damage. I see adults, teens from 12 up, and couples. The part I like best is the part most people brace for, the moment somebody finally says the thing out loud.
For eight of those years, I also worked inside an Emergency Department, where I built burnout programs for police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and for the trauma surgeons and nurses who handle the worst nights of other people’s lives. That work sets a person’s tolerance for hard conversations fairly high, and it taught me to explain complicated things in plain language, fast.
So I’ll question the labels you walked in with. Not everybody’s bipolar. Not everybody’s a narcissist.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, for most of it. The work is about what happens between the two of you, so both of you learning it at the same time is what makes it work.
Most couples wait for something big: money trouble, infidelity, a death in the family. The work does more for you earlier than that, including before the two of you take a bigger step together.
Reading, reflection, and skill practice. The learning moves faster once it gets used in a regular week, so you’ll have something to work on most weeks.
No. They space out through the third phase as the two of you carry more of it yourselves.
Yes. Distrust and the feeling that your needs don’t register are part of what the work addresses, and neither one is a reason to put it off.
